Ongoing Vetting and Care Costs for Blue Moon Foster Dogs

Organized by Blue Moon Rescue

Update April 23
Thanks to the efforts of PetValu Beechwood's dynamic manager and a very kind donation from the Trio Animal Foundation we will be able to get much vetting done between now and the end of May. Depending on how Lizzie's surgery goes, we may have enough to also cover Daisy's second set of extractions! It would be so wonderful to have our two major surgeries finally done :0)

There are of course other costs to rescuing that will not be covered, so if you can help out, even if only with $2 or $5 your contribution will be much appreciated. We have ongoing vetting, boarding and other foster dog care expenses that are of course constant. Without the public's support we would also not be able to consider rescuing new dogs and we are grateful for any assistance you can provide to help us accomplish our mission.

Thank you

Lizzie: Our Next Surgery
Hi everyone! I'm Lizzie. My humans think I am part Basenji and part Black Mouth Cur but no one knows for sure. They say I am beautiful and sweet :0) I don't remember how I got lost but Blue Moon Rescue took me into their
program from the poor rural pound where I was stuck.

When I started showing mobility problems, I was x-rayed. It was found that I have no hip joint in my back right leg - it’s just bone rubbing against bone and there is some scar tissue as well. I don't remember if I was hit by a car or other object on my hip joint, or if I had a disease of the femoral head but whatever the cause of the injury, no one ever treated me for it! It's an old injury and by now the thigh bone has rubbed against the hip socket a lot. The usual way to repair this type of damage is through an operation called femoral head excision. Basically, it consists of removing
the top inch or two of my thigh bone. With rehab and physio, a strong false joint will be formed and though I may move in a bit of a lopsided manner, my life should be normal after about 6 months. This fairly common procedure
has a very good chance of success for me because I am young, light boned and only weighs 30 lbs. I need to have it done now to prevent further damage to my thigh and pelvis and the resulting chronic pain and lameness.

Poor me, I've been waiting a long while for this surgery because other dogs came in with more urgent surgeries. They were in greater acute pain or danger, whereas I did OK as long as people monitored my exercise. Because Blue Moon is so small, it took a long time to raise the funds for the dogs "in line" before me, but now it's finally my turn! My buddy Sammy has had the same surgery, and you can read about him here:
http://www.facebook.com/AweSamRescue

Sammy is doing well 2 months after surgery and I just know I will likewise benefit greatly from it. My case is a little more complicated than Sammy's so the surgery will take a bit longer, and I'll also need to see the physiotherapist. With all the x-rays, physio and drugs for the 6 month rehab, the surgery is estimated at about $2,100. This is a huge amount of money for my little Rescue! Please help Blue Moon raise the funds to enable them to book an appointment for me soon!
Thanks so much!
